Hello Richard,
This is Sue Alexander.Samuel and Nancy are buried in the Rigg Cemetery on the original Rigg farm property in Bethel Twp., McDonough Co., IL (near Macomb, IL).The headstones were made some years after the couple died and both are legible. However, the information on them is misleading. Both list died in the 1850s.Nancy's lists NC as her birth place.Samuel Philpot Rigg was born 10 Nov 1782 in Charles Co., Maryland. He died 31 Dec 1852 in Bethel Twp., McDonough Co., IL.Nancy was born 17 March 1780 in Culpeper Co., VA and died 11 Nov 1852 in Bethel Twp., McDonough Co., IL.Nancy's father, Russell Vawter did move to NC, but not until after her birth.I've found her listed in both states, but the facts keep returning to VA.In addition, there is an old family Vawter bible somewhere and my 3rd great grandmother Nancy is listed as having married an "H" Rigg.I don't know where that came from, but it is not the case.Another interesting fact, Nancy's father Russell was married to Mary "Polly" Sparks. They were first cousins.Russell's mother, Frances Towles, was a sister to Polly's mother, Mary Towles. In my research, I was following these families and thought I had made a mistake when I looked at my tree.I retraced everything and came back to the same conclusions.Later, I found a family book of the Towles family and their marriage was listed in a will, but at the time it stated there was no issue.Of course, that is not true!
How else can I be of help? You may reply to me personally at [email protected].
Sue
