The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Saturday, March 15, 1879 We learn from MR. G.W. MCCULLOUGH, that a disastrous prairie fire ran over portions of Liberty Tp. on Wednesday of this week. The fire was set by some unknown person on Indian Creek, and there being a strong wind it spread rapidly, destroying over three quarters of a mile of rail fence, and all the prairie hay belonging to MRS. VAWTER, also about 400 rails for A.G. PARR, a half mile string for BENJAMIN CLOUSE, and a lot of fence of MR. PALMER's and MILTON BROWNING's. There is a severe law against firing prairie in this State, and if the perpetrator of this fire should be discovered he will be prosecuted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert March 31, 2004 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas Notify Administrator about this message?
