Lemuel Vawter was the son of Thomas Vawter and Mary Elizabeth Pitt.
A first marriage bef. 1797, is sent by Marian W. Rief email frief@mindspring.com writes “through research of the Thornton line the following information Betsy Vawter m. John Wyatt Thornton and that her parents were Lemuel Vawter and Julia Wilson”.
A second marriage is found for Lemuel: Children of Lemuel and Julia Wilson:Charlotte Co., VA 18th Century Orphans & Others, pub. 1989 by Joanne Lovelace Nance (N.W. Lapin Press, Charlottesville, VA) held at Ft. Wayne IN Library. p31
3 Sep 1798 court, William George, guardian to Obedience Jackson, orphan of Lewis Jackson, produced a receipt of Lemuel Vaughter who has intermarried with Obedience.
A third marriage of Lemuel is 27 Aug 1828 to Kesia Gadsey. Marriage bond 27 Aug 1827 record of Charlotte Co., VA and marriage 28 Aug 1828 Lemuel Vawter to Keziah Godsy. It is believed Keziah/Kisiah had children of a first marriage.

The marriage bond of John Wyatt Thornton and Elizabeth P. "Vawtner" was dated 26 September, 1815 in Prince Edward County, Va. Father Lemuel "Vawtner" gave consent. Surety was Owen L. Wood. LDS microfilm JR1074, Pr. Edw. Co. M. B.s 1754-1850
