Vaux of Sedgefield, Co. Durham
We have a pretty good rundown on a family of Vaux (otherwise spelt Valks, Vaulks, etc) living in Sedgefield from about 1700, starting with the first of a series of Henry Vaux (the first a farmer, later ones weavers) born about 1680. There is a William Vaux, son of John born in 1681, who is probably a brother of Henry, but this is not proven.
Does anyone have any information on this period? We think there may be a connection with John Vaux, curate of nearby St Helen Auckland from 1616 to about 1642, but there is no available proof of this (his connection to the Sunderland brewery family is documented).
