Hello Chrissie, like you I had always been told that Vaughn was German, but when I started doing look ups I learned that it is actually Welch. Both spellings stem from one root. I read somewhere that the first Duke of Wales was a Vaughan. If there is any French involved it is probabily through a marriage. I know there is such a union in my family tree.
