Services are set for 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Blackmon officiating. Burial follows in East Post Oak Cemetery. The family receives friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bright-Holland Funeral Home. He was born March 10, 1938, in Madisonville, the son of Johnny Floyce and Carrie Caroline Keefer Vaughn. He served his country in the National Guard. He and his brother-in-law, Alton Smith, were co-owners of Smith Impliment from 1963 to 1969, dealing in John Deere products. He began work at the Texas Department of Transportation in 1972, retiring in 1995. He was a member of East Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church and Blossom Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Pettit; and a brother, Kenneth Vaughn. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Smith Vaughn; two sons, Carl Vaughn and fiance, Karla Tredway, and Darrel Vaughn, all of Blossom; daughter, Donna Johnigan and husband, Steve, of Waco; a special nephew, Douglas Pettit of Blossom; four grandchildren, Clay Vaughn and wife, Meagan, Carley Vaughn, Zachary Johnigan and Bryce Johnigan; one brother, Cecil Vaughn and wife, Annette, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Dessie Campbell and husband, Don, of Waco and Joyce Maddox of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Casket bearers are Alvis Bates, Mark Bates, Verlon Vaughn, Michael McNabb, Ted Flatt and James Freelen. Honorary bearers are Claude Tyler, the Rev. J.T.
