Special Request!
In a very round-about way I received and interesting puzzle regarding a
teacher, presumably of Goliad county and hoped, if you are a resident
of that county, that you could lend a hand in solving......

My step-father is a VASSAR. Through many different hands, he received
a letter written by the Sheriff of Goliad County to the Teachers Retirement
System in Austin, TX. The letter goes as follows:

Dear Sirs:
I have an unusual request. I have a tombstone in my office.
The name and dates and other information inscribed is: ANNA VASSAR
1903-1967, 43 YEARS A TEACHER.
I would certainly appreciate any research you can do and if you
find any relatives of this woman, I will want to contact them so that they
can claim and replace this head stone. Any assistance will be greatly
signed by Sheriff J.K. McMahan, Goliad County
letter dated 25 Feb 1999

I have never located any VASSAR relatives in Goliad County and hoped
that some genealogist in the area might have a bit more idea of how
to proceed. The only thought I have is to send to the TX Vital Stats for
Anna's death certificate as it might give more data.

Any thoughts?

Barbara Hodges
