I decend from Michael Vassar bur. in the Laytonville Cem. James Agustus is my great grandfather. He is one of Michael's sons, as are Grant and Joseph. Michael was married to Mary Powell, she is buried in Laytonville as well, along with an infant that was never named (the cemetery has lost all info. on the baby, the reason I know about it is because my grandfather, James Alton Vassar, who is also buried there, did know about it and was checking in to buying more plots because he didn't think we had enough) Also in that plot are Bernice Vassar Brunges (dau. of James Agustus and Edna Lorine Ward Vassar Redemeyer), Frederick Elliott Vassar (son of James Alton Vassar and Myrtle Marie Elliott).

I am rambling. Michael and Mary had 13 children, 11 grew to adulthood. 11 were boys and 2 were girls. The Maxine Vassar in Ukiah is probably from the Hopland Vassars. As far back as anyone can research, the Hopland Vassars are not related to the Laytonville Vassars, which seems odd given the relative proximity and the unusual name. Email me if you have some more questions, I may be able to help further.
