In Reply to: VASSAR - INTRODUCTION by Bonita Olmer of 243

Was Matilda Vassar of same generation as Matthew Vassar (b. 1792, East Tuddenham, Norfolk, England)? James Vassar and Anne Bennet emigrated 1796 with five children including Matthew and siblings, John Guy, Jemima, James, Matthew and Maria. From several sources this seems to have been the only children they had. James' bachelor brother Thomas Vassar also emigrated. Thomas remained single. The family was Baptist while in England. There is no evidence that other branches of the family emigrated. My ancestor was married to William, an uncle of Matthew's who remained in England.
