Hi,

I'm researching the Vans/Vance family of Wigtownshire and Ayrshire and I think it's very likely that the Vass group you have recorded is a branch of that family. If you would be interested in pursuing that question I'd be very glad to hear from you.

I'd be particularly interested if you know of any male Vass descendants who might be willing to take a DNA test to investigate this possible connection further. (see http://www.vancegenealogy.com/index.php)

I should add Vans, Vanns, Vanse, Vas, Vass, Vaus, Vauss, Vause, Waus, Wauss and Vance all seem often to be completely interchangeable even within a single document without any discernible pattern of use according to the date or particular branch of the family (although it's true that 'your' Vasses are consistently written VASS as far as I can see.

Regards,
Jamie Vans.
