I believe your Charles Vass may have been born Charles G(eorge?) Croucher, son of Ann Croucher, possible father George Vass who married Ann shortly afterwards. The only information I can find on him is in the 1861 census where he is given as Charles G Croucher aged 3, son of George and Ann Vass and living in Church Street, Crondall, Hampshire, England. Ann Croucher married George Vass on 2 September 1858 in Crookham, Hampshire. There were at least 8 other children who can be traced in the later censuses. However I cannot find any other references to Charles - not birth, christening or death. I can be contacted at ted[AT]CroucherConsult.co.uk.
