Hello,

I am also very interested in James Vass. From 1797 until at least 1802 James was in the mercantile business with partner Robert Dunbar (c.1745-1831), also from Forres, Scotland. It wouldn't surprise me if the two were related, though I've not seen anything that would confirm this. The Stafford County court granted them retail licenses in 1798-1802, then from 1803-1828 granted the license to James Vass alone. James' house in Falmouth is still standing and occupied as a dwelling. There was also an Alexander Vass who died c.1809. I would be most interested in anything you might be able to tell me about this interesting individuals.

Sincerely,
Jerrilynn Eby
