I have two references to a James Vass in the Brooke family that I'm researching and am trying to unravel the relationships. Can anyone help?

James Vass who came from Forres Scotland when very young during or soon after the Revolution and settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia; married first Susannah Brooke and had issue; married second about 1687 Elizabeth Brain Maury, daughter of Colonel Abram Maury of Madison County; He was half brother of Jane Morrison who was wife of William Brooke and mother of the late Honorable James Vass Brooke of Warrenton, Virginia; and this William Brooke was son of William Brooke whose wife was Molly Beale, daughter of Colonel William Beale of Richmond County, Virginia; and the last named William was son of William Brooke 'THE ELDER' who is said to have married Unknown Fontaine and who was 2nd son of Robert Brooke, Jr., knight of the Golden Horseshoe per The Brooke Family of Virginia by Prof. St. George T. Brooke, Morgantown, West Virginia published in Genealogies of Virginia Families from Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume I, page 440

Jeannie Morrison, is shown to be the half sister of James Vass, a Scotch merchant of Fredericksburg and granddaughter of Sir James Cumming, Laird of Sluie, Forres, Scotland, who married William Brooke in The Brooke Family of Virginia by Prof. St. George Tucker Brooke, Morgantown, West Virginia, published in Genealogies of Virginia Families from Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Volume I, page 537
