Essex DB 29:262 mentions a bargain and sale of 20 Mar 1764 from Vincent Vass of Essex County to James Emerson of the town of Tappahannock. The subject of the sale was 6 slaves: Bob, Jacob, [?], Patty, Rachel, and Toney. The consideration was 200 pounds current money. The transaction was witnessed by James Webb. Essex DB 29:308 mentions an indenture of 21 Jun 1764 between Vincent Vass of King and Queen County and William Lyne of King and Queen, and Archibald ritchie of Essex, for 120 pounds, bargain/sale of a tract of 240 acres in King and Queen purchased by Vass from the estate of Nicholas Pamplin, together with 9 slaves--Patt, Jacob, Bob, Toney, Rachell, Jeny, James, Lett, and Anthony, also 4 feather beds and all household furniture, stocks of cattle, hogs, etc. From other records, it appears that Nicholas Pamplin mentioned was married to Mary by whom he had a son Robert Pamplin. Mary later married a Mr.Jenkins. It also appears this Nicholas Pamplin was son of Nicholas Pamplin who died King and Queen in 1751 and who was the husband of Sarah Roane. Sarah Roane had a brother, Col. William Roane, who was the father of Judge Spencer Roane. Col. William Roane and his sister Sarah were children of Capt. William Roane who married Sarah Upshaw, daughter of Capt. William Upshaw. Essex DB 29:269 contains a mortgage deed from John Upshaw et al. to Vincent Vass (17 Apr 1764). Judge Spencer Roane married Elizabeth Hoskins who was the daughter of Col. John Hoskinis whose wife was Elizabeth Chaney. Elizabeth Chaney was the daughter of John Chaney whose wife was Anna Brooke. Anna Brooke was daughter of Peter Brooke whose wife was Anna Vass, daughter of John Vass of Essex who died 1754. The Essex Guardian Bonds (vol. 2, 1761-1796, p. 85) mention that Elizabeth Chaney, orphan of John Chaney dec'd, was bound to Henry Vass as her guardian.
