Hi Darlene,
The site of Old Fort Vause known today is in Shawsville, Montgomery County, VA. There is a historical marker K 73, Fort Vause marking the site with information about an Ephraim Vause, b. abt 1718. It is supposed that Ephriam forebearers were among the German Palatines...In 1746 Ephriam had patented land in Augusta County, VA. He built the fort which was destroyed during the French Indian Wars in June 1756.
I cannot locate the list I had of the names of the people killed or captured at the fort. John Smith Jr. and his brother Joseph were killed. The website:http://www.net/~newriver/ has information on the French and Indian War in the American South and has a map of where Fort Vause was located.
