Sue, you may be right. Spotsylvania Deed Book F notes that on 28 Aug 1763, Philip Vincent Vass of St. Georges Parish executed a deed of gift of 2 negroes to his son John Vass. The deed was recorded 5 Sep 1763.
However, there is a record dated 5 Nov 1772 in Deed Book H involving Rice Vass and Ann, his wife, of the first part, and Mary Vass, widow and relict of Philip Vincent Vass, of second part. This record, dated 5 Nov 1772, notes that Philip Vincent Vass died intestate and a tract thereby descended to John Vass, his eldest son and heir, who sometime afterward died intestate and without issue, so that the tract descended to Rice Vass as elder brother and heir of John Vass.
Thus, both Philip Vincent Vass and John Vass died between 28 Aug 1763 and 5 Nov 1772. So, the John Vass mentioned in the Middlesex records could have been the son of Philip Vincent Vass. Philip Vincent had connections to Middlesex through his wife also.
