A WILLIAM VASS appears in the records of Middlesex County in March 1777 as a plaintiff in a case against William Taylor.

In May 1777, WILLIAM VASS was again in court in Middlesex. The order book notes that John Evans was one of the garnishees in an attachment brought by ?Wm. Segar/Seger and Vass against William Taylor.

A Richmond County, VA account book record of 20 Apr 1778 mentions Col. Samuel Peachey and the estae of N. Flood. The account mentions WILLIAM VASS and Lodowick Jones.

An Essex County, VA tax list for 1783 (2nd district) includes the names JOHN VASS and WILLIAM VASS.

In Jul 1784, the court records of Middlesex County, VA mention the case of WILLIAM VASS plaintiff vs. Samuel Moore defendant. This was an attachment for 3500 pounds of current money. The sheriff was directed to sell certain personal property (items mentioned included household furniture) and apply proceeds toward satisfaction of ths debt. The order book notes the defendant failed to appear and a default was entered against him.

A 1787 Essex County tax list mentions the names JOHN VASS and WILLIAM VASS.

The Essex County probate records include an appraisal of the estate of WILLIAM VASS. This account is dated 15 Dec 1788. Presumably Vass died some time prior to this date. I have not been able to find a will.

Can anyone provide any information on this WILLIAM VASS, or on any of the other persons named in these records. William Vass was probably born in the 1750s or possibly before. Was he a son of John Vass Jr. who was himself the son of John Vass who died in Essex in 1755?
