Earl, thanks for replying.

J.C. Varnes was my father-in-law's name originally. The family who adopted him was named Werstein, and his first and last names were changed. I do not know what the J.C. stood for. He had several other siblings including a sister two years older who was initially placed with the adoptive family as well, but she did not remain with them -- reasons unknown.

We are eager to learn about my father-in-law's family, identity, etc. and perhaps meet some of the cousins, etc one day. He was a tremendous person! Thank you for any information. Susan
