No Czech (Bohemian) connection. First Varnes (Werntz, Worntz, etc.) in PA, was Conrad (Konradt) who came from Rhine-Palatinate region of present-day Germany. Area also was known as Rhine-Pfalz region. 'Hope this helps.
Chester Arthur Varnes was my uncle.
