I know there have been many posts concerning a few Varnes' in the early 1800's coming from Pennsylvania. I, myself, am a descendant of Isaac A Varnes born abt. 1833 in Perry County, PA. He is commonly mixed up with another Isaac Varnes that was born around the same time. Tonight I actually found the common mistake. The Isaac that was born abt. 1830 was the son of Isaac and Jane Varnes. Sadly this is not the same Isaac that I am a descendant of.
I know this because there is an 1860 Census that lists Isaac Varnes son of Jane and sibling of Mitchel, Anna, and Sarah R. This can be also seen in the 1850 Census of I (Isaac) Varnes, J (Janes) Varnes, I (Isaac) Varnes, E(Ezra Doty)Varnes, MI (Mitchel) Varnes, M (Michael) Varnes, AM (Anna Maggie) Varnes, E (Elizabeth) Varnes, SR (Sarah R) Varnes.
The Isaac I was a descendant of can be found in the 1860 census married to Sarah J. (kerlin) with two sons William and James. So clearly, being on two different census records can show that they are not the same person. My Isaac was also the Isaac that moved from PA to Cass County, IN, then to Peoria Co., IL. He then left his wife Sarah and was remarried in Schuyler County, IL to a Louisa Walker. He later passed away in Crawford County, KS.
I am looking to find more information on my Isaac Varnes, aka his parents. I am hoping that this information I have helped someone that was mixing up the two different Isaac's as I know I was getting more confused with each record I was reading.
