Carol,I would be happy to share with you the information that I have connerning my Varnes Family. One day I hope to make a trip to Pa. to further research my Varnes line.So far this is what I know about my 4-great grandfather George Varnes who was born @1765 ( do not know if he was born in Pa. or Germany, and we know nothing on who his parents were, etc...)What I do know is that he and his first wife were living in Cumberland Co., Pa in the 1800 and 1810 Census.Sometime after 1810 his first wife (unknown) died and he remarried to an Elisabeth Unknown.By 1820, George and his wife and children have moved to Ohio and are found in the 1820 census for Lake Twp, Wayne Co, Ohio.George died on Jan. 15, 1835 in Lake Twp., Wayne Co., Ohio.I have been to the family cemetery and been to his grave.A few of his sons are buried close by him with their families.I have found that the Varnes name has been spelt Werns, Werntz, Werntz, and Warns.I wish so much we could find family in Pa. that we could connect to. I would like to know if George was born in Germany and came to America with his parents or if he was born in Pa.There was a Conrad Werntz that I was hoping to connect with our Varnes but so far no luck.
Your Jacob could possible be a brother to my George. And since he was born in Pa., this area of Pa. could very possibly be where this family originally settled. Then when George was older he moved to Cumberland Co., Pa.
Anyways, if you would like to contact me at my e-mail address that would be great!!It is [email protected] hope we could find a connection. Thanks for contacting me.
