Hello--I am hoping to find a connection for my Varnes family that came to America before 1790 and settled in Pa. We have been able to go back to our George Varnes who was born @1765 ( at this time not sure if he was born in Pa. or Germany ) We found our George in the 1800 census Cumberland Co. Pa., 1810 Cenus Cumberland Co. by 1820 he is living in Lake Township, Wayne County, Ohio. We also know he was married two times, his first wife nothing is known of, but they had the following children: 1) Jacob born 11/26/1789 Pa. 2) Martin born @1790 Pa. 3) John born 11/17/ 1797 Pa. 4) Catherine born 12/15/1798 5) Philip born 10/15/1802 Somerset, Pa. 6) Esther born 1804 7) George Jr. born ??? 8) Martha born ??
His second wife was only known as Elisabeth, to this union was born 1) Daniel born in Pa. in 1811 2) Susannah born 9/17/1815 in Ohio 3) Henry born 1816 Ohio 4) Rebecca born 4/23/1820 Ohio 5) Elisabeth born May 10, 1823 Ohio 6) Simon Peter born 9/15/1826

George died on Jan. 15, 1835 in Lake Township, Wayne County (now known as Ashland county) Ohio.

Would love to find George's parents and who is siblings were. When this Varnes family would have come over from Germany.

George's son Martin Varnes ( also spelled Warns on land deeds, wills, etc...) is our connection. I also have information concerning his brother Philip.

Any help or any ideas on how I could or where to look for this Varnes family in Pa. would be so great. I live in OHio and thought if I could just get to the Pittsburg library that it could be of some help to me. Any suggestions? Please help.. Have hit a brickwall with this side of the family.............Thank you for your time..............Deb (Varnes) Abel
