Harrison Varnes was listed in the 1850 Census for Rock Creek twp. Carroll Co. IN. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Varnes and was 2yrs old. He still could have been in the Civil War but we have not searched for pension records as we are primarily interested in Juniata Co. PA veterans of that war. His father James was the son of John and Margaret Varnes of PA. James may have been born in Perry CO. and then was moved with his parents next door to Juniata Co. There were several brother and sisters of James in Carroll Co. 1850-1860. Several descendancy charts of this family seem to be ciculating about but I think there is some confusion as there are more John Varnes than we can account for!!! We can go back to Valentine Varnes and his sons Isaac and John who were in this county but then it gets dicey trying to find the John Varnes line. If you can help, it would be much appreciated.
