Founder of Dallas?
I've seen references on this board to John Vardaman being the founder of Dallas, Texas. I grew up in Dallas, and this is untrue. Dallas was founded by John Neely Bryan, a lawyer from Tennessee when he claimed a section of land overlooking the three forks of the Trinity River in 1841.
BTW, I am also a Vardaman Decendant; Nancy Vardaman m. Smiley Hagins in Georgia abt. 1840. They had Nancy Hill Hagins, my gggrandmother. Is anyone familiar with this family?
