Sarah L. Vardeman, born ca: 1853, was the daughter of John B. and Mary Williams Vardeman. His second marriage was to Emily Campbell 11/30/1869, Nacogdoches Co., Tx John B.[unknown]Vardeman, born ca: 1829, was the son of Henry Walker Vardeman and Willie O'Neil, Morgan and Jasper CO. GA. Henry Walker Varderman, born ca: 1804 was the son of William Vardeman [VA-Wilkes CO., GA-MS Terr-GA] and Rachel Walker. He and Willie had three known children: Sarah L[uvicy] - married William D. Paul John B. Vardeman - Married twice Thomas John Vardeman - married Elizabeth Rebecca Knight Vardeman, the widow of his uncle, James B. Vardeman. William Vardeman [of William, Jr, William Sr] was the son of William Jr. and Jane [surname believed to be Bennett of the Va Bennetts] He married Rachel Walker, daughter of Silvanus and Alice/Alsey/Elcy [surname thought to be Pilcher] Walker of Wilkes Co.-Greene Co-Morgan Co-Jasper Co- Randolph Co. GA records. William Jr. was the son of William Sr. of NewCastle Co. Delaware and Magdalena Peterson [daughter of Peter Petersson and Karin ? see Records of Holy Trinity [Old Swedes] Church] He served in the Bedford Co. VA. militia. He married Jane [surname unknown but thought to be Bennett. They are in Wilkes Co. Ga records by 1785. Jane married Francis Billingsly in l797 but quickly divorced him, as per Ga Divorce records. They are known to have a daughter Rhoda who married Lewis McLean and are thought to have a daughter, Hannah who married Jesse Evans. William Sr. son of John Vardamon and wife Margaret Of New Castle Co. Delaware and brother of Johannes, Christopher, and Jane Margrita, married Magdalena Peterson [daughter of Peter Petersson & Karin ?] 4-21-1720. They moved to Goochland Co-Brunswick Co-Lunenburg Co-Bedford Co. VA. Magdalena seems to have died pre 1752 when he signed a contract of marriage with Elener He[a]rd of Lunenburg [recorded April Court 1752 in Lunenburg] Elener seems to have died as well, and he married pre 15 mar 1759 to Bridget Tinkler of Halifax Co VA [see Court Record Book 1, deed dated 15 March 1759] William Vardeman, Sr. and Briget, sold their belongings in Bedford Co. VA 1763 and migrated to Craven Co. SC where they purchased 150 acres on the S-sd of the Enoree River on Indian Creek. The deed is dated 12-13-1766 and refers to William as a merchant. His will was probated in Newberry Co. SC in the March Court 1798. It listed only his sons: John, William, Peter and James. No daughters names were included in his will. John Vardamon's will is filed in New Castle Co. Delaware. dated 3-17-1714, pr 4-5-1715 wife: Margaret, Excr Son: Johannes to get land if he returns to care for mother other chn: Christopher, William, and Jane Margrita. Johann and Christopher remained in Delaware and can be found in those records. I believe that Jane Margrita is the one mentioned in THE RECORDS OF HOLY TRINITY CHURCH [Old Swedes] as the wife of James Senexon/Senneckson/Seneck with her surname listed as Werdeman/Werdman in the recording of their children's births. David Vardeman gave you good advice as Jack Vardaman is THE most knowledgeable person I've meet regarding the Vardeman lines with Ed Ewing Tatum next in line. David is very good when it comes to those descended from John of Kentucky and futher west. I would suggest you contact the following Vardaman who has the most complete knowledge on the Vardeman, Vardamans and Vardimans that I have found so far. His nickname is Jack and he is very willing to help. PS. He really likes to visit by phone. Mr. Jack H. Vardaman 361 Wright's Mill Ct. Alpharetta, Ga. 30201 (770) 887-4803 The only information I have on John Vardeman Sr. and John Vardeman Jr. families being in South Carolina is from two sources. 1.) A family narrative passed on to me(Excerpts from the life of Jeremiah Vardiman). This narrative was apparently written for a family reunion to celbrate family history. I have the original and it is old and yellowed, but has no date or reason for the compilation. In this narrative it states that John Vardeman Sr. with his family, emigrated to America and settled in South Carolina in the early part of the eighteenth century, and there died, as his descendants reported, at the extreme age of 125 years. It also states his son John Jr. while living in South Carolina met and married Elizabeth Morgan and soon after moved to Bedford, Virginia. Another reference is "A History of Kentucky Baptists, From 1789 to 1885" By J.H. Spencer, Volume I, Page 230-241. This reference also states a South Carolina settlement by John Sr. and John Jr. with the later marrying Elizabeth Morgan. Has anyone looked for a marriage bond in South Carolina for John Jr. and Elizabeth? 2.)The reference "The Vardaman Family" by Virgil M. Woods, 1983 also states they settled in South Carolina. No hard tax roles, or other hard cross documentation. However, I have been tracing hard cross documentation of land grants, tax roles etc. clear back to the point of John Vardeman tax roles in Botetourt County, Virginia on the New River, Land Grants of friends they stayed with on the Maiden Spring Fork of the Clinch River, Russel/Tazewell Coounty Virginia and Militia roles in Bedford County, Virginia and have found the original family narrative to be completely accurate todate. Down to the finding of a Shadrach White home on the Maiden Spring Fork of the Clinch where the family reference stated the John Jr. family "forted" with the White Family in 1777. I most recently (Sept. 1999) visited the site and confirmed the location of the land grant description relative to the family narrative. I find no cause to doubt the family narrative account so far. I will continue to hunt for hard cross reference data in South Carolina next. I have more data on a William Vardeman, Newberry County will in South Carolina in 1789, Book 1-B p 72/73. source David Vardiman Diane: I have this compilation of Vardeman history which was sent to me by Valerie Hurd, Sundance, WY. "vghurd@mcn.net" She lists: "Second Generation William Vardeman iii son of John Vardeman I. born ca 1698 in New Castle, Co., DE. His will is probated on 1 March 1789 in Newberry County, SC. He died before 3 March 1789 in Newberry County, SC. William died in what ws then the old 96th District, now known as Newberry County, SC. Moved to Goochland County (now Albermarle Co., VA) in 1733. He was married to Magdalena Petersson (daughter of Peter Petersson and Karin) on 21 April 1720 in Old Swede's Church, Willmington, New Castle, Co. DE. William Vardeman and Magdalena Petersson had the following children; i. John Vardeman II, ii. William Vardeman Jr. born about 1723 Goochland Co., VA. He died in 1795 in Wilkes Co., Georgia. iii. Robert Vardeman was born between 1733-1736. iv. Peter Vardeman was born between 1735-1740 in Goochland Co. VA. He died after 24 February 1783. v. James Vardeman ancestor of Jesse Vardeman, Georgia. vi. Maira Vardeman was born on 1 April 1724 in Wilmington, New Castle Co.,DE. She was baptized on 5 April 1724 in Old Swede's Church, Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE. William was married to Eleanor Heard on 7 April 1752 in Lunenburg Co., VA. William was married to Briget Tinkler before 12 July 1758. Valerie Hurd then continues with the History of the Third Generation - John Vardeman II. Contact Valerie, she will be willing to send you a file. Dear Ms. Sweet: The Vardeman family line is not documented as having come to SC from Sweden. In an interview with Morgan Vardeman, son of John Vardeman II, conducted in ca 1844 and an interview with W.H. Vardeman, great grandson of John Vardeman II, in 1868, Lyman Draper records the words as the Vardeman Family coming from Sweden with a 7 year old John Vardeman (I?). Wills and land transfer documents record the earliest Vardeman record to the Will of a John Vardeman in 1714, New Castle Co., Deleware. Documents flow fairly consistently through a son of John I, William, who moves to Goochland Co., now Bedford Co., VA and then in his late years, 96th District, now Newberry Co., South Carolina. He is the father of John Vardeman II who blazes the wilderness trail into Kentucky in 1775 with Daniel Boone and moves his family to Lincoln Co., Kentucky on Cedar Creek. This is the location of the Vardeman Family pioneer cemetery which is being located. Please see earlier posting under David Vardiman. Please contact me directly for additional information.
