Few sites for research in Slovakia:
www.iabsi.com/gen/public
www.cisarik.com
www.cgsi.org
www.iarelative.com
www.helenezx.homestead.com Slovak Pride Surname Index
www.pavlovics.com
www.slovakfolkcrafts.com
VANYO in Hungarian and VAN^O in Slovak. SZEDLAK in Hungarian and SEDLAK in Slovak.
SK's phone book lists both surnames but you need to locate a precise place of birth among the US documents.
Take a look in Ellis Island website.
www.ellisislandrecords.org
Mary would come thru EI as Maria or Marya.
John is Janos in Hungarian and Jan in Slovak.
No W in Slovak alphabet but you may find a surname starting with a W because it is a strong V sound.
An English Y is a J sound.
OVA is a female ending used in Slovakia.
