VanWinkle Family Genealogy Forum

I am in the same situation as Michael in post 544. I am a second or third cousin of Michael. I am coming to the conclusion that the reason we cannot get very much information about either Jesse or one of his later sons John Richard is because of first and second marriages by each and it appears that the offspring of each respective marriage went more or less their own way. This may have been due to age differences of the children from each marriage or maybe some animosity. I am purely speculating. Be that as it may, the Mejia, Tex. Van Winkles I believe are the product of John Richard's first marriage where Sallie and Alvin Alexander were born. One of the Mejia Van Winkles in the 70s wrote about John Richard's second wife having indian features and being kidded about her dark eyes and hair. I am speculating, but this may be why our line of the family had mentions of Black Dutch etc. I am also speculating, but I am beginning to believe from comparing and analyzing some similarities that the father of our Jesse is Michael Van Winkle. I don't have his number with me at this time but the location of Michael's travels and two possible two marriages leads me to believe that this is where our research is missing the link. I believe our help may come from people that would have come from Jesse's first marriage. Some of the early census records where Jesse is found in 1830 in I believe Alabama or Georgia show him with a son William or something like that who would be substantially older than John Richard. Maybe these thoughts could get people that can really research a place to start.
