I have a family bible dated 1849, purchased by John Van Vleck. There are spotty family records included, which indicate that he was born Ulster Co., N.Y. on Feb. 26th,1818. The records show that he had was married in Illinois in 1838 and had several children (daughters surviving) in the 1860's.

These family records are very confusing ...ther were several John Van Vlecks in the family. I am a direct descendent according to my late father but I have never been able to figure out how.
