Very cool that I found this. Last year, I inherited family items from my mother's estate. Included was a charcoal portrait of my great (great?) grandfather, Lewis Van Tassel. I was told stories by my grandmother about the Van Tassels and about Katrina Van Tassel. I have a copy (I have no idea where the original is) of the land grant in Visalia California that was signed by President Grant. This property was where my grandmother was born in 1908. I have a faded picture of the house on this property. On the back, my grandmother wrote
"Home- Orosi (CA) Approx 1890.
Pictured- Grandfather and Grandmother Van Tassel.
Ranch homesteaded 1876- Deed signed by U.S. Grant.
Birthplace- Sister, Brother, Me.
Grandfather Van Tassel deceased five 1902"
Anyone possibly related to me? Anyone know of the family? Somehow, the Van Tassel and Archer families married and took over the property sometime before my grandmother was born.
