Hello Heather,

Hope all is well.

My brother is married to Lisa Boynton. I am helping her with her family history.

One of her sets of grandparents were Virginia Van Tassel (1906 Michigan - 1998 Florida) & Paul R. Schafer (1904 Indiana - 1982 Florida) - married 1927-28 Michigan.

Virginia's parents were Ray Van Tassel (1874 Plainwell, Allegan County, Michigan - dead) & Martha Higgins (1875 Knoxville, Knox County, Illinois - dead) - married 1901 Traverse City, Antrim County, Michigan.

Ray's parents were Andrew Crawford Van Tassel (1827 probably New York, possibly Pennsylvania - 1900) and Adelaide Button (1845 New York - 1915) - married 1864 Wayland, Allegan County, Michigan. Adelaide was Andrew's second wife. His first wife was Adeline Smith (1829 Pennsylvania - 1863) - married 1847 in Columbus, Warren County, Pennsylvania.

Andrew's parents were Timothy Van Tassel (1775-1780 New York - dead MAYBE Michigan) and Anne Hogeboom (1780-1790 - dead) - married 1807 Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Caughnawaga, Fonda, Montgomery County, New York. Timothy was first married briefly to Sarah <Unknown>.

So Timothy MAY have come to Michigan late in life (he was in New York for 1840 census) and Andrew came to Michigan in time for the 1860 census.

I am thinking that my Van Tassels are not related to your Michigan brothers but thought I would put this on the Board just in case.

Steve Forester
