James Vantassell - Cold Springs NY - also Kemble

Seeking info on my great ancestor James Vantassell.
Only references I have are the census records for NY.
In 1850 James & family show in Nelsonville, Phillipstown, Putnam County, NY.
James - 38, Eliza [middle name may be Jane or Janet] 36, Jane - 17, Elisha - 14, James M. - 8, Gilbert age 5.
I can not find this family after the 1850 census other than a possible location for Gilbert in 1860, where I find a Gilbert Vantassell age 13 living with a Smith family in New Castle, Westchester County, NY. I'm not sure if this is in fact the same Gilbert, as of now it's only a possibility.
Did James Sr. die? did the family move away? Is there any one researching this family?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, even ideas as to where to research further.
James daughter Jane 1st married William Kemble of Cold Spring ca. 1851, had Mary E.,ca 1851, Susan ca. 1857 & George ca. 1859, William Kemble died before 1865, possibly in Civil War, Jane Kemble shows as Widow in Fishkill in 1865 census, no children are listed with her in this census but record shows 6 children born to this woman, Jane marries William S. Wood in July, 1865, my gr. grandfather Alfred is born ca. 1872. ALL CHILDREN take on the last name of WOOD.
I am seeking any info that will lead me to James Sr. parents names or what happened to James & Eliza after 1850.
Please email direct for quickest response, I can be reached at DAEM76@AOL.COM

Willing to share what records I have complied thus far.
Thank-you in advance for any help.
