Searching for information on a Freelove, or Freal J. or Jane Van Tassell born in Putnam County ca. 1829. She married 1st.a Kimball/Kemble/Kimble pre 1852.
Jane Kimball shows in June 1865 Fishkill census, as a widow, age 40 mother of 6 children, though none are with her in this census. July, 1865 Jane Kemble married William S. (Smith) Wood both of Matteawan, NY.
1870 census for Fishkill shows Smith Wood, with wife Jane, and children Mary E. (Elizabeth), 19, Susan 13, George, 11, Alice 2.
1880 census Fishkill shows family but this time shows Mary Elizabeth Kimbal age 25, Susie Kimbal age 24, both are listed as stepdaughters to Smith Wood.
George is not mentioned in this census, but two new children are, Frank age 8 and Alfred age 6. In both 1865 and 1875 census records Jane's place of birth is given as Putnam Co. NY, children all born in Dutchess Co.
Further research shows marriage record of their son Alfred E.F. Wood in Danbury CT in 1927. This record gives his parents names as William S. Wood and Freelove VanTassell from Matteswan NY. Another marriage by Alfred to the same woman (Mary Slattery) in 1824 shows Alfred's parents as William S. Wood and Freal J. Van Castle.
Brief death notice for Jane Wood is found in 1908 age 79, village of Matteawan, name on this death record is Freelove Wood. Matteawan directories for 1905 show Jane widow of William S. living on Anderson St.with son Alfred. It is clear that Freelove and Jane are one in the same, that Jane more than likely was a VanTassell, probably from Putnam County, NY, that sometime before 1852 she married a Kimble/Kemble (as her 2 daughters names were spelled in cemetery records) or Kimball as she is always listed. Also, that her husband (name unknown as this time) died before 1865, ?? Civil War??.
I have sent off for death certificate for Freelove Wood, which may reveal answers to my many questions, but if there's anyone out there that have ancestors that may fit into this Kimball family, or know of a death of a male Kimball pre. 1865 that may fit or know of a Freal J. or Freelove VanTassell (names given as mother of Alfred Wood in 2 different marriage records) that may fit please contact me direct at DAEM76@AOL.COM.

Thanks,
David Smith
