Lt. James Van Slyke - War of 1812 - NY (1772-1869)

I have found a grave of a Lt. James Van Slyke. The gravestone says:

James Van Slyke
1772 - 1869
Lt. War of 1812
Mannheim, New York
Service (or possibly serial #) 9296

Here in Michigan we have very few War of 1812 veterans and it would be nice to find something out of the man. What unit he was in, etc.
