Thanks for emailing. My first source is only my grandfather's research, undocumented, which shows Simon McDONALD, b. Ireland and May VAN SICKLE, b. Ireland. In the 1870 U.S. Census for Fenton Twp., Genesee County, Michigan, I find:

Simon McDONALD, 52, b. Ireland
Margaret McDONALD, 47, b. Ireland
Maggie McDONALD, 16, b. Michigan
Michael McDONALD, 15, b. Michigan
Thomas McDONALD, 13, b. Michigan
Simon McDONALD, 11, b. Michigan
James McDONALD, 7, b. Michigan

If May and Margaret are one and the same, then there is census data to corroborate my grandfather's research. Their daughter, Mary, could be the "Maggie" listed, although my grandfather had Mary born in 1850 and married in 1871. It seems doubtful that a 20-year old unmarried woman would not be enumerated with her folks. My family's roots are in Fenton.

Do you have a connection or any suggestions?
