Dolores, My husband is a gr gr grandson of Elias S. Van Sickle and Mary Cook.
His gr grandparents were Orlena Beatirce Van Sickle and Charles Wesley Cook.
We have pictures of Elias's and Anderson King's tombstones.
email me at and I can give you more info on them, plus we can compare notes on lineage. I've got it all down, except there's a muddle with Ephriam's father and grandfather that I'm not real comfortable with but I haven't taken time to do the research to try and sort it out yet.
I don't have a lot on Rueben but do have that story and a little more on him. I'd like filled in on his family, etc.
I have quite a bit on Benjamin A. Van Sickle, who is the one that moved to Hunt co. TX and who the town is named after. Longview used to be Earpsville, named for his wife's family.
Hiram C. Van Sickle had a son, Samuel (Sam) H. Van Sickle. He was just a couple years old or less when his father died and his mother remarried a much older man.. From information I've found, I suspect he spent a lot of his growing up years with his uncle Benjamin.
Elias and Mary also had a daughter, Grissie E. Van Sickle who married a J.M. Roberts.
Mary Faith Matthews
