Please see my message posted in 2000 about a book called, The History of the Van Sickle Family in America, published in 1880. It has a few omissions, but is generally pretty accurate. Most Van Sickles born before 1880 are included in it. I list in my prior message all the libraries in the US (who use OCLC cataloging, that is) that hold the volume. You can also buy a reprint from UMI in Ann Arbor for about $80 (and it is well worth it, imho).
Others on this forum may discount JW, but since he actually stayed with my great grandparents, the family looked him over and found him to be the genuine article. He was very well educated and ran a business school in Springfield, OH, too. He came East and interviewed most of the family, so got a look at some primary source material that is now gone.
Good luck! Betcha your folks are there!
