I have had the opportunity and pleasure to visit
with your earliest known ancestors, the Ephraims, Sr. and Jr.
If I may, I'd like to direct you to my message #324 here at the Van Sickle Family GenForum, under the thread "Van Sickle Family in Eutrope." In part I discuss the accumulation of Sickels family information by the late Gene Van Sickle, of Indiana, and his mistaken grafting of the Sickels tree to that of Ferdinande Van Sichalaer, immigrant progentitor of the Van Sic(k)le(n) family in New Netherland.
It is important to realize that these are two different families and that at certain points in the Sickels family history, some branches of this family acquired the "Van", whereas the immigrant progenitor Zacharias Sickels did not use this identifier.
As this is a Van Sickle family forum, I won't go into the details too much, but will note that Zacharias Sickels arrived in New Amsterdam from Curacoa when Stuyvesant became Director General of the colony. Sickels was from Vienna, Austria, but worked as a soldier for the Dutch West India Company and was stationed at Curacoa while Stuyvesant was governing that colony.
For a brief biographical sketch of Zacharias and some of his descendants, please see "Pre-Revolutionary Dutch Houses and Families in Northern New Jersey and Southern New York," by Rosalie Fellows Bailey, an accomplished genealogist of the mid-20th century. Her book was originally published under the auspices of the Holland Society of New York by the publishing house of William Morrow & Compnay in 1936. A Dover Press reprint in 1968 is the one I use and Zacharias is discussed specifically on page 206.
As I noted in the #324 message, though Gene Van Sickle was incorrect in attaching the Sickels family to the Van Sickle family, still, he had gathered information on the Sickels progeny that might be useful to students of that family.
In Van Sickle's "Van Sickle Add-on #4", beginning with page 22, Gene reprints some information concerning your family, which was apparently submitted to Gene by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Van Sickel. This is undated, but the "Add-on #4" was put together in 1988. The address of Jack & Joy Van Sickel, of Pheonix, Arizona is included. I checked the on-line phone directory at switchboard.com and find that the family is still listed at the same address, 3002 N. 52nd Parkway, Pheonix, AZ 85031. Their phone number is published.
According to this write-up, Jack Van Sickel is also a descendant of Ephraim Van Sickel, and his son Jr. In the write-up, Jack & Joy note that the father of Ephraim, Sr. was likely Zachariah Van Sickel and Mary Littel.
Hoping to be of some assistance,
