Dear Lucia, Rita and Cynthia,
Lucia, you had posted a query to the Van Sickle Family GenForum quite awhile ago, to which both Rita and Cynthia replied. I just happened upon the thread tonight. It being so long ago that this conversation was had, I cannot tell if you are still in search of an answer.
You had asked:
I was wondering if there was any relation...all I know about my family if that it is Dutch. If anybody knows anything about my family's origin, please e-mail me.
You family is Dutch, but is not related (except perhaps by marriages now and again since all three immigrant progenitors arrived on these shores), to either the Van Sicklens or the Van Winkles. Yours is its very own family, but the original spelling was Van Wickelen, or Van Wicklen. Over time, some branches dropped the "n" at the end, just as happened with the Van Sicklens. One or two branches of the family took to using the Van Vickle(n), or Van Vickler spelling. This is understandable when one considers that the Dutch pronounced a "W" as we do a "V". In truth, a Dutchman in old New York would have pronounced the name more like, "Fan Vicklen."
I will stop here as this may not any longer be news to you. But if you need more information of the Van Wicklens, please let me know.
Hoping to be of some assistance,
Richard (a descendant of the Van Sicklens and the Van Wicklens)
