JAMES VAN SICKLEN, ORGANIST, DIES AT 67

Played 43 Years in New Utrecht Church

James Van Sicklen, 67, organist of the New Utrecht Dutch Reformed Church for 43 years, died yesterday of pneumonia in his home, 1385 Elmore Pl. A life resident of Brooklyn, he was descended from an old Dutch family which settled on Long Island in 1659.

Mr. Van Sicklen was ill last Sunday, but insisted on taking his place at the organ during the church services. He was organist and member of the Kedron Lodge, F. and A. M., and acted in a similar capacity for th eMinerva, Greenwood, Sanctorum, Bat Star, Bay Ridge and Bay View Lodges, F. and A. M., and for the Bay Ridge Commandery, Knights Templar. He also was a member of the Royal Arcanum.

Mr. Van Sicklen was born in the old village of Gravesend, where spent his childhood and youth. He moved to Flatbush in 1915.

His wife, the former Mary Voorhies, member of an old Brooklyn family, died 11 years ago. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lanola Mottola, and three grandchildren: Bette Benedict, Charles Edward, and Marie Madeleine Mottola.

Funeral services will be held Sunday night at 8 o’clock in the New Utrecht Dutch Reformed Church, 32nd St. and 18th Ave. Masonic services will follow the religious rites. Burial will take place Monday at Green-Wood Cemetery.
