There may be two couples that have similar names - indicating perhaps a relationship.

The couple I seek were listed on the Fremont Co., IOWA 1850-1856 census/tax lists as being born in VA. His date was aroun 1808 and hers in the 1820's. In 1850 they have two children listed Margaret and Franklin - later census says he had lived in Iowa fo 23 years - meaning he would have arrived about 1833.

By 1860 - the couple is not there - but the children associated with the couple are: Franklin, Margaret, Benton, and Jackson. They are living with Van Scyoc (any spelling)relatives in the county: The KEELERS and the MUSTARDS.

Their father may have a) left them (perhaps to go to CA?) 2) died somewhere else or 3) died and was not formally recorded anywhere and buried on a family plot. A Sarah Van Scyoc marries a Fletcher in Fremont Co., IOWA ca 1860. Some have identified her as Sarah E. Farley b. Va in 1824 and widow of the 1850 Fremont Co., IA census:
A.V. Schylock....42....b. VA
Sarah Ann..........24........VA
Margaret............3.........Iowa
Franklin.............6/12.......Iowa

However, the name appears to differ "Sarah A. " Sarah E." and there is the problem of why the children were farmed out to relatives?

The Farley woman apparently came from a group that came through Andrews Co., MO. The 1910 census for Andrew Co., MO reveals a Jackson VANSCHOIACK b. 1846 [the pages were mixed up on Ancestry so I could view the page to see his birth palce). However, the Jackson VANSCYOC b. 1851 in Iowa listed in Glen Co., CA shows his father was born in VA and his mother was born in VA. This is a better match for the Jackson listed in Fremont Co., IA on the 1860 census :Enumerated with family of Riley KEELER, [said to be the son of Elizabeth Van Scyoc KEELER who had been born in Ohio Co., WV).

Franklin, may have also gone to CA. Benton is not located - but may have stayed in the area - not sure.

Margaret and Benton are enumerated with William MUSTARD, 30 b, PA and Ruth Van Scyoc Mustard , 32, b. VA (Benton (6) and Margaret (13) Van Scyoc)

Very interested in locating this A.Van Scyoc b. ca 1808(any spelling) with a wife Sarah A. both born in VA ca 1825. This man - I suspect - belongs to the Cornelius and Almira Van Scyoc family group in Ohio Co., WV that came through Marion Co., IN with MUSTARD and KEELER.
