Bingo, Laurie. You hit the nail on the head! From Lewis and Martha on, I have oodles of names and dates. You have given me another link backwards. Thanks. Lewis Skyhawk indeed did come from Bradford Co. PA (b. 3/9/1824). He died in Mower Co. MN. His tombstone says 5/17/1863 -- you might wish to change your data. He married Mary J. Schultz (I got the name wrong in my last post) on 2/20/1848 in Carroll Co. OH. Her tombstone lists birth and death as 9/3/1827 and 7/17/1891. Lewis' parents were Elias Van Skyhawk and Abigail Locke. I have no dates, and that is as far back as my info goes. Lewis had 11 siblings. I have all their names, some dates, places, and spouses. Elias and Abigail moved to Ohio with some of the children, left some behind in PA with Grandpa Locke. During this time the "Van" was dropped from the family last name. Why??? Good question. Lewis and Mary had 5 children: Zephaniah Frank (9/15/1850-1/2/1898), Ephraim (b. 1853?), Isabella, known as Bell, (b. 7/22/1857), Cashious Myron (7/25/1860-12/25/1943), and Ella (not Ellen) (7/18/1863-11/19/1911). You mentioned a Josephine. That is the first I have heard of another sibling. Interesting. Ella was my great grandmother -- my father's maternal grandmother. Dad dug up all this info last year on a visit to southern Minnesota. We found oodles of cousins we didn't know we had, just started going through the phone book in Spring Valley, Stewartville, Austin, and Rochester looking for "Skyhawk". They didn't know we existed either. Seems Ella was a bit of a rascal and eloped (Albert Lott Hamlin) to South Dakota, then moved to Utah. Except for an occasional letter home, none of the Skyhawks ever saw her again. 3 generations later, no one had ever heard of her. Then we show up on their doorsteps :-) Thanks again, Laurie. I received your e-mail, and I'll correspond with you more via that. Just thought others might like some of the history.
