Laini,
The John and Phoebe Van Riper you found are my gg grandparents.Phoebe died in Feb. 1897 and John eventually remarried Frances "Fannie" Park, a widow...I don't know her maiden name.John and Phoebe had four sons, 2 that died in young adulthood (Charles and Herman)...sons Horace and my great grandfather Morris Jackson "Jack" Van Riper were the two that survived to marry and have children.(I have three school certificates from the late 1890s that show Horace's daughter Harriett "Hattie" Van Riper being promoted to the next grade in elementary school.)Besides William Dickson, Hattie was also married to John August Leachtneauer...they married later in life, after 1930.I also already had the info. on Ralph and Margaret (Payne) Van Riper. My father (now deceased) remembered both Ralph Van Riper and his sister Harriet Leachtneauer.
I have not yet contacted Mr. Chaffee, but now that I know how helpful he was to you, will attempt to do so.Thanks for the tip :)
