Can you go to the 1850 census? You will find there information about George Van Ness. I think he was connected to the Leil family (Marriage?) You will also find the name Isabel connected with him. I assume that you are working on George Van Ness who's father was Cornelius Peter VN and a brother who was also Cornelius VN.
