Zlatica,

I returned last month from my first visit to Prague, Budapest, and then the Czech Republic.

I visited ancestral villages of three of my great-grandparents: Strazovice (okres Klatovy), Stribrne Hory (Nalzov), Nova Hospoda (by Nevren near Vseruby near Plzen).

And one village of a great-great-grandmother: Obora, not so far from Nova Hospoda, and north of Plzen.

I did not know the exact location of the village of Jan Vanko, "Blatnice v Urech". I had research conducted for Blatnice sv. Antoninkem, and another Blatnice in southern Moravia near Brno, but no Vankos in those villages.

So now it's back to Blatnica south of Martin in Slovakia. Research I commissioned 30 years ago there turned up the wrong Jan Vanko. Now the new genealogy researchers assure me that they can find the right Jan Vanko.

We will see.

If they can find him, then I will visit Blatnica on my next trip to Czech and Slovakia.

All the best,

John Vanko
