Jacob is recorded in the Acquackanonk records as being born Aug. 22, 1724, son of Dirk Helmerichse Van Houte and Netje Gerbrants, with witnesses Peter Helmerichse and Klaertje Post. This is among the early (pre-1727) baptisms that are recorded by family group (Jacob is grouped with three siblings), and apparently reconstructed when Acquackanonk got a full time minister (Rev. Henricus Coens); previously it was served by the minister at Hackensack. Probably the entry at Hackensack was in error as to which Van Houten was the father of Jacob.
