Peter S. VanHouten [s. of Peter P.] b.c. 1819 NJ

Have been looking for proof that Peter Sharp Van Houten is definitely the son of Peter P. Van Houten and his wife Polly/Mary Sharp/Sharpenstine. I thought that Peter P. and Mary had moved across county lines by the 1830 census to Vernon township, Sussex County. By 1850, I thought that Peter and Mary and their youngest daughter had moved to the North Ward in Newark, Essex County. But further work with deeds and wills seems to indicate that the Peter VanHouten in Sussex County and the Peter VanHouten in North Ward Newark are almost certainly not the Peter and Mary that I am looking for though it is still possible that they did move to Sussex County. ("My" Peter S. son of Peter P. is not to be confused with Peter S., the son of Peter P.'s brother Simon. That Peter S. served in the Civil War and died in reconstruction Georgia.) Any help appreciated.
