According to Herbert S. Ackerman, "The Van Houten Family" (1945, reprinted with his additions/corrections 2001), Elizabeth is the daughter of John Van Houten and Elizabeth ---, born July 12, 1759 and baptised Sep. 9, 1759 at Schraalenburgh. According to him, she died Dec. 11, 1822. Not saying he's right, there are other errors in his work.

I've checked the published Schraalenburgh records, and there are three children born to Johannes/John Van Houten in that time frame and baptised at Schraalenburgh. Problem is, the first one (Johannes, born May 26, 1757, baptised July 10, 1757) only gives the father's name, the second (Elizabeth) gives father's name and sponsors Helmigh Van Houten and unidentified wife if I recall correctly, the last (Joseph, born Dec. 10, 1761, baptised Jan. 24, 1762) gives father's name, mother as Elizabeth, and I forget what sponsors. Ackerman puts them all in one family group, but there were about a half dozen John Van Houtens having children in the Bergen County area at the time, so as you can see there's no guarantee that all three, or even any two, were siblings.

If there is evidence that David's wife is the daughter of Cornelius Van Houten and Sara Demarest, I'd like to know the nature of it as well.
