Believe James D. VanHook (b. 1833, Harrison Co., KY) to be the son of Benjamin Franklin VanHook (b. 7 Jul 1815, d. 1844) and Evelina Whaley (b. 18 Jan 1809, d. about 1850). Evelina was married first to John Monson and had son Elijan Whaley Monson, second to Benjamin Franklin VanHook and had children James D. and Mary F. VanHook and she married third Ephraim Whaley (and had at least 4 more children).

James and Mary VanHook are living with their mother and step-father in the 1850 Harrison Co., KY census.

James D. (J.D.) and Sarah were married about 1859 as they appear in the 1860 Platt, MO (Clay Co.). James was a physician. In 1870 they are in Clinton Co., MO with James D. Jr. shown as 5 years old. The 1880 census for Clinton Co., MO only Sarah is shown with children James D (16) and Mary F. (6).

Regards, Herb VanHook
