In reviewing the National Archives Civil War pension file of my 3rd great grandfather, Benjamin F. Turner (d 1890) I discovered some information that I thought might be valuable to people researching the relatives of Benjamin's second wife. Her name was Mary A. Turner and she supplied all kinds of official documentation in her quest for a widow's pension after Benjamin's death. One was her marriage certificate to Benjamin F. Turner dated March 10, 1883 in Millville, NJ. On it, her section of the listing was as follows Name: Mary A. Vanhook Country of birth: America Place of residence: Millville, NJ Age nearest birthday: 49 Last name if a widow: Vanhook Number of brides marriage: 2nd Name of father: Benjamin Ashley. country of birth: America Maiden Name of mother: Abigail Vanaman. country of birth: America The other document was her first husband's death certificate. Date of death: July 8, 1873 Name of deceased: Benjamin Vanhook Married of single: married age: 48 Occupation: box maker Place of death: Millville, NJ place of birth: unknown Names of parents: William - Catherine Cause of death: paralysis There was also a letter in the file from Mary's daughter to the pension bureau informing them that Mary died on May 19, 1920. I thought this might be of use to someone researching these families. Karen Worley Notify Administrator about this message?
