The Van Fleet family that still resides in Kentucky is descended from James, Joshua Junior's brother. My records show clearly that he was in Kentucky in 1819, and that "Joshua Junior may have accompanied him." Your information seems to show this indeed was the case. In fact, there was a substantial movement of persons from Ontario County NY to Kentucky, thanks to the purchase of a huge tract of land there by a prominent Ontarian who encouraged persons to relocate in KY. The presence of the Nichols family very much substantiates this presence for Joshua Junior.
Indeed, the furtherrelocation to Illinois is definite, and the commentary about Mary Ann Nichols' death is important, because the next marriage (license) is noted in these comments, reflecting an appropriate date for the birth of William in 1833 in Ohio. I have no question in my mind that William was born of the second marriage, not long after the death of the first wife.
I have never found information about Joshua Junior living in Ohio, and possibly the brith of a son there was during a sojourn rather than during a period of settlement. His relatives were, frankly, all over the Marion County and adjacent county areas.
The Illinois locale, however, is very important in thecontext of William's later life -- Civil War and beyond.
Does anyone have information on siblings other than those born to Mary Ann? I don't, and I'm looking for a brother possibly named James.
